PRIVACY POLICY

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Location Information

When you grant location permission, we collect GPS coordinates to:

• •Detect speed limits on roads you're riding
• •Track your ride route and distance
• •Generate ride statistics and maps

Important: Location is recorded only during a ride you have started. That continues while you use other apps or your screen is locked, which is what lets a ride keep recording in your pocket — a notification is shown the whole time it does. When no ride is running, or the app is closed, nothing is recorded.

1.2 Sensor Data

We collect data from your device's motion sensors — accelerometer (for lean angle detection), gyroscope (for orientation tracking), and magnetometer (for heading). This is used to calculate your motorcycle's lean angle, detect turn quality and cornering behavior, provide riding technique feedback, and power crash detection features.

1.3 Ride Statistics

We automatically generate and store ride duration and distance, maximum speed and lean angle, route information, and the timestamp of rides.

1.4 Device Information

We collect basic device information — device model and manufacturer, operating system version, and app version and build number — to troubleshoot issues and improve app compatibility.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• •Provide core features: Display speed limits, track rides, calculate lean angles, and generate statistics
• •Improve your experience: Analyze usage patterns to enhance features and fix bugs
• •Calibration: Store sensor calibration data to ensure accurate readings
• •Local storage: All ride data is stored locally on your device for your review
• •Emergency features: Power crash detection and emergency contact alerts

We do NOT sell your data to third parties, share your location with other users, track you outside of active rides, or access your data without your device.

3. Data Storage and Security

3.1 Local Storage

All your ride data is stored locally on your device. We do not store your personal ride information on any server. Your ride history, location data, and statistics never leave your device unless you explicitly choose to export or share them.

We do operate a file server for one purpose: distributing map data. It sends road information to your device and never receives ride data from it. See "Offline map downloads" below.

3.2 Data Protection

• •Downloaded map data is verified by checksum before use, so corrupted or tampered files are rejected

4. Location Data

4.1 Collection

Location data is collected only when you grant location permission, you actively start a ride, and the app is in the foreground (or background during an active ride). We never collect location data when the app is closed or when you're not on an active ride.

4.2 Usage

Location data is used exclusively for speed limit detection via OpenStreetMap, ride route tracking and visualization, distance and speed calculations, and emergency location sharing (only when you manually send an emergency message).

4.3 Third-Party Sharing

Your location data is never shared with third parties for speed limit purposes. As of version 1.2.0, speed limits are matched entirely on your device using downloaded map data, so your coordinates are no longer sent anywhere to look them up. Previous versions sent the current road coordinates to OpenStreetMap's API.

5. Sensor Data

Motion sensor data includes real-time accelerometer readings (lean angle), gyroscope data (rotation/orientation), and magnetometer readings (heading). It is processed in real-time to display current lean angle, detect and analyze turns, provide riding technique feedback, calculate riding statistics, and detect potential crash events.

Sensor data is processed locally on your device, stored only as aggregated statistics (max lean angle, turn count), never transmitted off your device, and never shared with third parties.

6. Emergency Safety Features

6.1 Crash Detection

MotoSema includes an optional crash detection feature that uses your device's motion sensors to detect potential motorcycle accidents.

• •Accelerometer and gyroscope data are analyzed in real-time during rides
• •If a potential crash is detected (impact above 4.0G), a 30-second countdown screen appears
• •You can cancel the alert at any time during the countdown
• •After 30 seconds, if not cancelled, the app opens a pre-filled SMS or WhatsApp message screen
• •You must manually press "Send" — the app NEVER sends messages automatically

No special SMS/messaging permission is required — we use your device's native messaging apps. Messages, prepared with your GPS location, are sent only when a crash is detected, the countdown expires, and you choose to send. Recipients are the emergency contacts you configured (up to 5 for Premium, 1 for Free). Standard SMS/data rates apply. We do NOT send messages automatically, read your messages, or access your message history.

6.2 Emergency Contacts

Contact phone numbers are stored locally on your device, encrypted. You can add, edit, or remove contacts at any time in Settings. This feature is completely optional and disabled by default. No messages are sent without your explicit action.

7. Third-Party Services

7.1 RevenueCat (Subscription Management)

We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions (Premium: $4.99/month or $49.99/year). Data shared with RevenueCat is an anonymous user identifier, purchase and subscription status, transaction history, and device type and OS version. RevenueCat does not receive your name, email, or personal information, location data or ride history, any content of your rides, or emergency contact information.

7.2 Google AdMob (Advertising — Free Tier Only)

Free tier users see banner advertisements powered by Google AdMob. AdMob may collect a device advertising identifier (resettable in settings), general city-level location (NOT your precise GPS coordinates), ad interaction data, and device information. Upgrade to Premium ($4.99/month) to permanently remove all ads and stop all ad-related data collection.

Premium subscribers: zero ads displayed, zero ad-related data collection. AdMob data collection is separate from your ride tracking — your GPS routes, lean angles, and riding data are NEVER shared with advertisers.

7.3 OpenStreetMap

We use OpenStreetMap data to provide speed limit information. Since version 1.2.0 this data is prepared in advance and downloaded to your device, rather than requested while you ride — no GPS coordinates are sent when checking a speed limit, speed limits are matched on your device and work with no connection at all, and data is provided under the Open Database License (ODbL).

7.4 Offline Map Downloads

Map regions are downloaded from our file server (maps.motosema.com), hosted on Cloudflare's network. What is sent: which map region you requested, and your IP address, as with any web request. What is not sent: your position, your route, or any ride data. This happens only when you choose to download a region, or when your device automatically fetches a region you are entering, according to your settings. No account or identifier is attached to these requests.

Requesting a region reveals a rough interest in that country to our hosting provider. This is far less precise than the continuous position stream earlier versions sent while riding.

8. Data Retention

Complete data deletion: delete individual rides (tap ride → Delete), delete all rides (Settings → Clear All Data), or uninstall the app to permanently delete all local data from your device.

Data export: before deleting, you can export your ride data as CSV (spreadsheet-compatible), JSON (developer-friendly), or GPX (compatible with Strava, Garmin Connect, and other fitness apps).

9. Your Privacy Rights

9.1 For All Users

You have complete control over your data: grant, deny, or revoke location permission at any time (and use the app without location, with limited features); view all your rides, delete individual rides, or clear all data in settings; export your ride data (CSV, JSON, GPX); and recalibrate or reset sensor calibration, which is stored locally and can be cleared.

9.2 For Users in the European Union (GDPR)

Under the General Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to access, rectification, erasure ("right to be forgotten"), data portability (CSV, JSON, GPX), objection to certain processing, withdrawal of consent, and to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Legal basis for processing: consent (location tracking, motion sensors, emergency contacts), contract performance (providing the ride tracking service you requested), and legitimate interests (improving app functionality, preventing crashes, fraud prevention). 9.3 For Users in California (CCPA)

California residents have the right to know what personal information we collect, use, and share; to delete their personal information; to opt out of the sale of personal information; and to non-discrimination for exercising their rights.

We do NOT sell your personal information to third parties. Period. Your ride data, location history, and personal information are never sold, rented, or traded.

10. Data Security

We protect your information using:

• •HTTPS/TLS encryption: all network communication (map downloads, RevenueCat) uses encrypted HTTPS
• •Encrypted local storage: your ride history is stored in an encrypted SQLite database on your device
• •No cloud storage: your GPS routes and ride data never leave your device (unless you export them); map data travels the other direction only — to your device, never from it
• •Minimal data collection: we only collect what's essential for the app to function
• •Secure third-party APIs: RevenueCat and AdMob use industry-standard security
• •No passwords: no account creation means no password breaches

If your phone is lost or stolen, your ride data is protected by your device's lock screen security and emergency contacts are encrypted in local storage — no one can access your data without unlocking your device.

11. Age Restriction

MotoSema is intended for users 18 years or older, because motorcycle operation requires legal driving age, the app's content focuses on motorcycle riding activities, and its safety features are designed for adult motorcycle operators.

We do not knowingly collect data from anyone under 18. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a minor, contact us immediately at support@motosema.com and we will delete it.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect new features or functionality, changes in legal requirements, or improvements to data protection practices.

You'll be notified via an in-app notification when you open the app, update notes in the Google Play Store / Apple App Store, email (if you've provided one for support), and an updated "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. Your continued use of MotoSema after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy. If you don't agree with changes, you may delete your data and uninstall the app.

13. Governing Law & Dispute Resolution

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Switzerland. Any disputes arising from this Privacy Policy shall be resolved in the courts of Zürich, Switzerland.

For users in the European Union, this does not affect your rights under GDPR or local consumer protection laws.

14. Additional Information

14.1 No Account Required

MotoSema does not require account creation, login, or email registration. This means we don't store your email address (unless you contact support), we don't have passwords to secure, we can't link your rides across devices, and your privacy is enhanced by not having centralized user accounts.

14.2 Offline Functionality

Most features work completely offline — lean angle tracking (uses device sensors only), GPS recording (no internet required), ride history viewing, and crash detection. Internet is required only for downloading map regions (one-off per region; speed limits then work offline), subscription verification (RevenueCat), and displaying ads (AdMob, free tier only). Speed limits no longer require internet once you have downloaded the region you are riding in.

14.3 OpenStreetMap Data

15. Important Disclaimers

15.1 GPS Speed Disclaimer

The speed displayed in MotoSema is derived from your device's GPS sensor. Accuracy depends on your device hardware, GPS signal strength, and environmental conditions; readings may be delayed, inaccurate, or unavailable (tunnels, urban canyons, poor weather). GPS speed is NOT a replacement for your vehicle's odometer or speedometer and is provided as supplementary information only. Using MotoSema's speed display as your primary speed reference is done entirely at your own risk and is not the intended use of this application.

15.2 Speed Limit Data Disclaimer

Speed limit data is sourced from OpenStreetMap (OSM), a community-maintained open database. It is provided on a best-effort basis and is known to be incomplete — many roads carry no recorded limit at all. Data may be outdated, incomplete, or inaccurate, and accuracy varies by region. Speed limits shown are for general awareness only; users MUST always follow actual road signs and local traffic laws. MotoSema and HEDX Studios are not responsible for any consequences arising from reliance on OSM speed limit data.

15.3 Crash Detection Disclaimer

Crash detection is a supplementary safety tool. Detection accuracy depends on device sensor quality and mounting position; not all crashes will be detected, and some non-crash events may trigger false positives. It is NOT a replacement for proper safety equipment or emergency services. Always wear appropriate safety gear and follow safe riding practices. HEDX Studios is not liable for any failure of the crash detection system.
